Nature is precious. We’ve only got one Great Swamp and it’s our responsibility to protect it, for if our natural resources disappear, they disappear forever. Wondering what you can do to get involved? Here are a few great ways:
- JOIN FROGS
The Friends of the Great Swamp (FROGS) are volunteers and neighbors who have been working to preserve the Swamp since 1990. The mission of the organization is to undertake activities to preserve, protect and promote the functions and integrity of the Great Swamp wetland and its upland watersheds in Putnam and Dutchess Counties, New York. The strength of FrOGS is the active, dedicated volunteers and citizen scientists who organize and run the activities and events, conduct the research, and speak on behalf of the Great Swamp. The more committed members we have, the stronger our organization is, and the more we can do to protect the Great Swamp through supporting research, educating the public, fundraising, and encouraging conservation and appreciation. - VOLUNTEER
If you have special skills or time to donate for event coordination, resource identification, photography, writing and blogging, membership, grant-writing, research, public relations, or other skills, let us know. We’re always looking for passionate volunteers who want to be involved.
- ADVOCATE
Get involved in the community. If you live or work in one of the Great Swamp communities, you can be of great help if you understand the issues threatening the Great Swamp and advocate for change. Attend your local Planning Board and Zoning Board meetings and voice your concerns. A list of municipal websites can be found on our Links page.
- LEARN & EDUCATE
Become aware of the value and benefits of the Great Swamp, as well as the threats and issues. Sign up for our event alerts, attend events, spend time with members and gain more knowledge about Putnam County and Dutchess County watershed areas. Use your knowledge to educate your friends and family about the Great Swamp.
- DONATE
At FROGS, we value every donation… whether it’s time, influence, resources, ideas, or money. Whatever you have to give, we appreciate. Our organization relies on donations of all kinds and we appreciate each and every one.
