More of us are seeing black bears in our yards or visiting our bird feeders, but getting along with them calls for some knowledge and common sense. Come learn from an expert, Connecticut Master Wildlife Conservationist and bear enthusiast Felicia Ortner. Having studied bears for over 30 years and logged over 280 educational outreach hours throughout NY and New England, Ortner hopes to help people better understand and respect, but not fear, black bears. She will address their natural history as well as awareness, safety, and conservation.

Her rich narrative covers such topics as the seasons and colors of native wildflowers; the interesting pollinators of this ecosystem; and the intricate relationships that ensure pollination of flowers and dispersal of seeds.

On the Water: A Photography Workshop with Justin P Goodhart

Meet at Patterson Environmental Park before 10:00am for a paddle to Pine Island and a hike to Hawk's Rest. Bring your own boat and PFD (personal flotation device). We'll start the event with a paddle to Pine Island, "the heart of the Great Swamp." Once there, we'll hike up to Hawk's Rest and back to the boats.
